Murder arrest after van hits three people in town centre

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a van hit a group of people in a town centre in Derbyshire.

One man suffered serious injuries and died at the scene in Ilkeston, while two other people were taken to hospital with injuries that are not thought to be serious, Derbyshire Police said.

The force said it was called to Market Place just after 2.10am on Saturday.

One man, believed to be the driver of the van, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He is currently in police custody.

The incident was not believed to be terrorism-related, Derbyshire Police said.

The force said it was not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

In a statement Derbyshire Police said: “Market Place will continue to be closed for some time while officers carry out enquiries, and we would like to hear from any witnesses.”
