Alec Baldwin has had hip replacement surgery after suffering “intense chronic pain,” his wife says.

The 65-year-old US actor, who has been in the spotlight following the fatal shooting of 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the western film Rust in October 2021, has been given a new “quality of life” following the successful surgery.

Sharing a photo on Instagram of the two of them from a hospital bed, the star’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, 39, wrote: “Alec got a new hip today… it was a long time necessary.

“We have been through so much together… as your partner and as you heal, I want so very much for you to leave this very intense chronic pain chapter behind and improve your quality of life.”

She went on to thank the doctors and hospital staff for bringing her husband of 11 years “safely through this”.

Baldwin was one of those who left a comment, writing “and you. Thanks to you..” – praising his wife.

The health update comes after all criminal charges against Baldwin over the death of Ms Hutchins were dropped.

Prosecutors in Santa Fe, in the US state of New Mexico, had been pressing forward with two involuntary manslaughter charges until “new facts” were revealed that “demanded further investigation and forensic analysis”.

All criminal charges against actor dropped

In April, prosecutors said they were unable to proceed with the case, but the decision to dismiss the charges did not “absolve Mr Baldwin of criminal culpability”.

Baldwin then thanked his fans for their support, when the filming of Rust resumed last month.

“I’m grateful for all of the support I have received here,” he wrote, posting a photo showing him in costume, while also praising Montana, where they had been filming.

Days after the reshoot of Rust, completed, Baldwin reportedly signed on to his next film, which will focus on what happened when four students were shot and killed during a protest at Ohio university against the war in Vietnam in 1970.

Baldwin will reportedly star as Kent State president Robert White in the upcoming film Kent State.
