New Orleans attacker ‘acted alone’ with ‘no definitive link’ to Tesla blast – as new details on IEDs revealed

US

The man who drove a pick-up truck into a crowd of people celebrating the New Year in New Orleans is believed to have acted alone, the FBI has said.

There is also “no definitive link” between the New Orleans attack and the Cybertruck explosion in Las Vegas, the FBI’s deputy assistant director Christopher Raia, from the agency’s counter-intelligence division, said.

He said the incident in New Orleans was “premeditated” and an “evil” act of terrorism, and that the attacker was “100% inspired by ISIS”.

Officials started the news conference by paying tribute to the 14 “innocent victims” who were killed. The 15th death was that of suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar.

He said the agency is reviewing two laptops found from Jabbar’s home during a search, three mobile phones, as well as two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) recovered near the scene.
