Sinead O’Connor has died aged 56, according to Irish media.

The singer was best known for her 1990 song Nothing Compares 2 U and released 10 studio albums.

Her death comes after her 17-year-old son Shane died after he went missing last year.

O’Connor paid tribute at the time, writing that he had “decided to end his earthly struggle and is now with God”.

She wrote: “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the very light of my life… May he rest in peace and may no one follow his example.

“My baby. I love you so much. Please be at peace.”

O’Connor previously cancelled her 2021 gigs after announcing she was entering a one-year treatment programme for trauma and addiction.

In a series of tweets, she said she had been through a “traumatic six years”, but now “recovery starts”.
