Britney Spears ‘to marry fiancé in surprise wedding today’

Britney Spears will reportedly marry her fiancé in a surprise ceremony this evening, only seven months after the contentious conservatorship that ruled her life and finances was ended.

The singer became engaged to Sam Asghari, a 28-year-old fitness trainer partner, in September last year.

At the time Spears, 40, joked that the proposal was “way overdue”.

The intimate ceremony in Los Angeles will be attended by around “60 guests of those in their close circle”, a source quoted by People, a US media outlet, said.

A month ago, Asghari confirmed the pair had set a date for their wedding, though he did not say when it would be.

In an Instagram post, he said: “Our lives [have] been a real life fairytale. Happy Mother’s Day to you my soon to be queen.”

He then told his 2.4 million followers that “the big day has been set!”

According to TMZ, Spears’ brother Bryan will attend the ceremony but her sister, Jamie-Lynn, and her parents will not be present.

Spears became estranged from some members of her family after she was placed under the conservatorship in 2008, with her father, Jamie Spears, given control over her personal and financial affairs.

It was terminated by a Los Angeles court in November last year after Spears delivered a harrowing statement in court in which she described the complex legal arrangement as abusive and condemned her father Jamie Spears and others who had been in charge.

This will be the singer’s third marriage.

Spears has two children, Sean and Jayden, with her former husband Kevin Federline, whom she divorced in 2007.

She married her childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander in Las Vegas in 2004, but they divorced ln the same year.

In May this year, the singer announced the loss of her “miracle baby early in the pregnancy”.

She had revealed she was pregnant a month earlier, saying she had taken a test after Asghari teased her about being “food pregnant”.

Posting on Instagram, she said the couple “perhaps” should have waited to announce she was expecting until they were “further along”.

She added: “We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support.”
